How to catch a CFO fish

I could have been part of an amazing love story. Cliché, maybe, but still a love story and that’s something us women fall to. Anyway, it was just a regular flight and I was sipping drinks to the passengers, when I accidently spilled hot tea all over the pants of a guy sitting by the aisle (yes, that place exactly). I gazed at him before I started serving drinks and he looked gorgeous – white shirt, a suit and a nice dark blue skinny tie and I had to tell Marta how beautiful he is. But then, all blushed, I just wanted to run away as far as I can, even if it means jumping out of a plane.

Fortunately, he just smiled at me and although I thought it was from all the warmth around his…you know, it turned out that he liked me. We talked a little bit during the flight and he seemed like a nice guy. Besides, he is a CFO of the anonymous proxy company , so apparently he is a pretty good catch. But, that wasn’t the main reason I decided to go out on a date with him, just so you know ha, ha.

A couple of days after the flight he invited me on a date (with a plea to keep his pants dry this time) and we went to a fancy restaurant. I don’t know if it was from all the hot coffee or the pressure in the plane, but he seemed rather dull and I was bored out of my mind. Maybe hot coffee can get a guy out of his pants, but if you want a girl out of her pants you need to know how to make her laugh. He didn’t do it once, so I didn’t have any other choice but to forget him quickly.

Oh, well, plenty of fish in the sea.

The city of love and the French accent

I know they’re saying that all roads lead to Rome, but as far as I’m concerned, I totally wouldn’t mind if all my roads lead to France and Paris in particular. I used some free time that I had to visit Palais-Royal gardens, which are treated as one of Paris’s best secrets. Palais-Royal used to be a royal residence (well, duh) but now is a home to some very beautiful gardens. There is no noise, so you can enjoy you coffee while enjoying the view or you can wander through some of many boutiques located here. Besides that, I was told that here’s the home of two best French glove makers…am, can’t exactly remember their names.

And the best thing, I was told all that in English language, but with a French accent, which is something that might easily be the most beautiful thing in the world. If you ever plan on coming to France and I would say that at least one visit to Paris in your life is a must, I would definitely recommend you to take a cruise tour on Seine. You will see all beauties of Paris and practically every landmark this city is known by. It is just a special feeling seeing this incredible bridges as the guide talks about them in some kind of a soft English.

Unfortunately, I didn’t get to meet many locals, if you don’t count people working in boutiques or bars, but I guess it’s one of the curses of the job – you’re never long enough in one place so you can make true friends. Despite that fact, Paris is always going to be a place I will gladly visit and a city that really soothes me.

The secrets of a flight attendant

I read a very interesting article online recently about the characteristics of the flight attendant’s job and I really had a good laugh. They really nailed it, I could have recognized myself in many of the things written there, so I just thought to write a few lines about it.

First of all, it’s true, we work our aDOUBLE-Ses off, frequently 12 hours and more and it is really hard to maintain the smile and the looks. I’m not complaining, it comes with the job as well as many of the good things, but sometimes you’re just too tired or even sad to keep a smile all the time. Still, I happened to come across to a nice, polite passengers often, so they quickly remind me why I’m so glad to be in their service, so they can have a pleasant flight.

And one of the most tiring things is sleeping in hotel rooms. While those are often beautiful hotels, it just stops you from having a place of your own. True, I have the apartment in Amsterdam where I come occasionally, but that’s sometimes just not nearly enough. I guess it’s actually me, since I am close to my thirty and already thinking about something that couldn’t have crossed my mind five or ten years ago.

I would like to have the opportunity of settling down sometimes in my life, and until then I will quote the article I read – this job is better than other jobs! I know it sounds contradictory now, but it really is, incredible adventures, interesting people, visiting all those places you always wanted…

A woman got lost, found watching a basketball game in MSG

Hello, dear friends. I had the opportunity to visit an NBA game and see the New York Knicks basketball team live!  Well, I actually wasn’t that thrilled, but my friend Marta is actually a Knicks fan and, since she had an extra ticket because she broke up with her boyfriend, I decided to accompany her. Madison Square Garden is not unfamiliar to me, I was there for several concert, the best one being Billy Joel’s one. Man, it was great.

This time, I didn’t even know what to expect. I mean, I watched football (soccer, for all my American fans :)) when Ajax played in Amsterdam, but I never understood basketball. We didn’t actually have courtside seats, since they are expensive, but if it’s any consolation, at the beginning I saw Olivia Wilde from up far and, since she’s one of my favorite actors, the evening was already a success.

One more interesting thing was the kiss cam, which I saw for the first time in my life (I’m just not into sports). I constantly asked when the next time-out will occur so that I can see if the guys on camera will kiss each other.  Oh, my God, what if they zoomed in on me and Marta, would I have to kiss her? I’m sure she would have gotten t me first.

On the court there were some mostly black guys shooting some ball to the basket, missing it more than hitting it (I was told that wasn’t exactly a successful season for the Knicks) and in the end Pelicans won (I believe they are from New Orleans…or New something), which made Marta quite sad and nervous. But, we talked through her break up during the game and I managed to make her feel better

Why I love my old fashioned brother

Some of you guys (and girls, but I like thinking that guys make the majority of my visitors lol) that actually visited my about me page or have at least carefully read my posts, know that I have a brother named Max, who means a world to me. Unfortunately, I don’t see him as much as I would like to, since his job as a graphics designer at takes a lot of his time and my job has me flying from one place to the other, but he came by to my apartment and we managed to talk for hours.

I just forgot how positive Max can be and he really cheered me up. It’s not always easy to move from place to place all the time without being able to put down roots anywhere. Don’t get me wrong, I love my job and all those fabulous places, but I guess these thoughts come with being a woman. Anyway, Max reminded me about my qualities. He is really a great listener and has great advices to give, even though he is younger than me. In fact, Max surprises me with his level of maturity sometimes, he has a steady relationship with this really cute girlfriend Joanna. He always gives her small presents like flowers, chocolate or writes love quotes and leaves the notes on her pillow and even Joanna herself told me he is the best boyfriend in the world. Between you and me, I like to think I played a part in raising him that way. I would just love to find someone a little-bit old fashioned like him and I promised him that we will go on a double date, as soon as my meet him.

Celebrity on plane or Matilde meets Wentworth

Oh my God, oh my God, oh my god! I’m simply ecstatic as I got to meet Wentworth Miller on my flight! Girls reading this blog will relate with me – you know when you fantasize about some celebrity (in a nice way, not in a dirty one) and every time you see him on television, you just think whether he is the same in reality as he is your mind and then you are thrilled when you actually get to meet him and it turns out to be true!

I always thought about Wentworth Miller as of a guy that’s polite, careful and always with a smile on his face. You know, a guy that charms his way through life. Well, I think I can safely say that all of that is true for Wentworth. Granted, I didn’t have a lot of talk with him, except I offered him some drinks a couple occasions and I would’ve offered him a lot more, if you know what I mean, but you know, rules are rules. But, joking aside, I asked him for an autograph and he accepted signing it with a smile. Even as my colleagues and basically half of the plane did the same thing, he was smiling at everybody and patiently answering to all the questions.

I just had to tell him I loved him in Prison Break (I think that show is absolutely fantastic and that he is a terrific actor and when he looked at me while saying a thank you line, my heart trembled. I know, you will say that he’s gay, but that’s just not important, the important thing is that I met my favorite actor and he definitely fulfilled my expectations as a person. Thank you, Wentworth!

I’m more than proud of my Dutch roots and always love when I’m in my hometown, which happens to also be the biggest city in the whole country. This is why I will abuse owning of this blog to write a few lines about Amsterdam.

Let me tell you one thing, Amsterdam is beautiful. A lot of people associate it with Red light district (yup, that’s where the ones you pay are), but there’s so much more than that. For instance, if you find yourself in this city, be sure to visit the Amsterdam’s Canal Belt. Did you know that 165 canals encircle the city? Who cares about Venice, Amsterdam’s the way to go.

Flowers is one of the symbols of my hometown and my country and one of the most famous places where you can buy tulips is Bloemenmarkt. Since cycling is also very popular in Amsterdam, I suggest you head down there on bikes.

I just realized that I would need a lot of space to write everything I wanted about Amsterdam. There’s like more than a million things to do in the city, so you will be thrilled, whether you’re spending just a couple of days or you’re here for the longer stay.

Unfortunately, I don’t get to spend the amount of time I would in Amsterdam, because my job often takes me to other places. But, I just love every time I’m here, whether I’m just staying at my apartment and watching TV or I’m enjoying a picnic in the Vondelpark, which is one more thing that should be on your list of things to do when visiting.

Oh, and I just have to mention my brother Max, who makes Amsterdam even prettier than it is already.

Is serving drinks all I do?

I love my job. Almost always, and even in those moments when I don’t cherish it that much, I quickly forget about it and I start loving it again. In fact, I think that more people should know about how it is being a flight attendant. Some guy recently said he thought that all they do is that they waitress in the sky, but that is just not true. Actually, my friends, serving your drinks is practically last thing on my list of duties.

First thing I worry about is that you feel safe and secure. You know, if anything goes wrong up there, you will have to rely on me and my co-workers. It’s not like we can quit at that moment. Of course, except in serious situations, we are there to help any passenger in distress. In fact, recently, I resolved a conflict between two mature passengers, ordering them to sit down and talk nicely with each other. They listened to me, which made me very proud of my abilities.

Oh, and let me just tell you one more thing. When everything goes the way it should, I technically do server a 200-seat table, but keep in mind that this doesn’t mean you should offer me tips. In fact, the airline doesn’t allow us to accept them and, to be honest, it’s often awkward. Please don’t get me wrong, I absolutely love being appreciated and it is nice that passengers feel that they should thank me in some way, but actually, a simple thank you with a smile on your faces does miracles.

Ultimately, I’m there to make your trip comfortable, and if I see that you’re feeling that way, well that’s more than enough for me.
